Abstracted Emotions- Classwork

It has been such an amazing gift to share the exploration of Abstract Expressionism with this talented group of open hearted individuals in Abstracted Emotions.  We explored deeper and deeper into the wonderful world of abstract expression; looking at mark making, technical skills, materials, how to expresses our inner selves without imagery, lots of studio work, and fun!  Lots of fun!

These amazing painters worked at their own pace, allowing the class to be exactly what each of them needed in this challenging time.  They supported each other and showed up in a genuine and inquisitive manner.

It makes my heart happy to share with you some of their amazingly expressive and explorative work from our time together.  Perhaps this show might inspire you, as it has me.

Warmly,

Robin Bateman Sturis

Abstracted Emotions gave me a chance to explore a new range of mark making techniques, as well as how to bring those marks into a finished painting. The class is full of opportunities to release emotions and set them free on paper or canvas.

Robin is a wonderful teacher.  She is so genuine, patient, and giving of her time and talent.  She goes above and beyond to make sure her students have excellent examples to follow, she makes sure her students feel comfortable with their art and their learning, and she reaches out to each and every one of us and gives us what each of us needs.  She also answers our many questions and reaches out to us beyond the classroom to meet us where we each are and have helped provide us all a community where we feel safe and comfortable to have a positive exchange with one another.

Galia Alena

I’m a visual poet working in just about any medium I can lay my hands on although I am a professionally trained photographer and a so called “self-taught” artist (of course there have been many teachers on that path). I’m in love with the creative process. I’m a beauty unveiler, light huntress, moment caresser and visionary poetess. Ultimately, all of my work is about helping people peel back the layers to experience the intense beauty of each moment allowing access to both their intuitive wisdom and a deeper connection to spirit and self. (Because the beauty of this life cracks our hearts open and it is through the cracks that light can flow both in and out and connect us back to our divine selves) That is what I do and I do it through photography, art, journaling and teaching. I live in the insanely beautiful Blue Mountains, just shy of Sydney, with my family, our cat and all the winged ones who frequent our garden. Each day here is a wondrous delight of tiny miracles through either the glorious light or magical mists. I would love to work with you, have a look around and see where you are called... "Where I create, there I am true." Rilke
