Usually in January we travel. It is a great time for us to travel- school holidays here, hot here, and off season most places we visit :)
Last year, with the pandemic, we were not able to, and we are unsure when we will be able to- I was missing travel. Instead I decided to start an armchair travel sketchbook to keep my practice going.
Of course with life, and all the other sketchbooks and artings, it took me the year to complete. I worked from photos from my travels which was a beautiful way to dip back into my experiences revisiting memories. The aim was to try varying styles and techniques (ink, pencil, monochrome, loose and fast, slower etc etc) to learn new things and see what I prefer. It was, as Miller says, a new way of seeing things, and doing things which is what sketchbooks, like travel, are for, trying new things. A few weeks back I shared a shown ‘n tell with my Travel Vignettes participants, a walk through of what I learned as I filled these pages. Today I’ve decided to share it as a little pop up bonus here.
Tell me, which style of sketching do you like?
